Security forces thwarted a terror attack on Monday wherein a car bomb had been positioned at the entrance to the Israeli West Bank settlement of Ateret, the Binyamin Regional Council said.

The IDF later said troops were at the scene, and the Police noted that their sappers were operating there.

Head of the Binyamin Regional Council, Israel Gantz, said following the event that "the terrorism in Judea and Samaria requires military action just like in Gaza and Rafah."

"Another great miracle took place this morning in the thwarting of a car bomb," Head of the Beit El Local council, Shai Alon, was cited in Israeli media as later saying.

"This is the third car bomb in just three days," he noted, adding  the "threat of explosive devices... is greater here than ever."

He further stated that the IDF's current operation in the West Bank, particularly in Jenin, should expand to the whole West Bank.

Third car bomb in West Bank

On Friday, a car bomb detonated at a gas station at the Gush Etzion Junction in the West Bank, wounding two.

In parallel, a terrorist rammed into a security guard at Karmei Tzur in the West Bank, after which the car subsequently exploded with the terrorist in it.

In recent days, the IDF has been conducting an extensive counter-terrorism operation in the West Bank localities of Tulkarm and Jenin.

The military operation, which began last week, was initiated in response to the recent terror attacks and the attempted suicide bombing that occurred in Tel Aviv on August 18, which is suspected to have been planned in the Tulkarm area.
