Baby formula prices in Israel to be regulated

A bill by MK Rachel Azaria (Kulanu) requiring that the price of baby formula be regulated by the government is likely to become law after the Ministerial Committee for Legislation approved it Sunday.
A study by Na’amat Movement for the Advancement of Working Women found that Israel is one of the most expensive countries in the world to buy baby formula - it costs about 35 percent more here than in the US and UK – and the Central Bureau for Statistics found that the price rose by about 20% in the past decade.
Baby formula prices were regulated by the government until 2001. “Baby formula companies act like a monopoly and take advantage of the fact that this is a basic and necessary item for families,” Azaria said. “There is no justification for that. I will continue acting to make life easier for young families in Israel.”
