Court extends remand of suspected abusing asylum workers

The Petah Tikvah Magistrate's Court extended in two to five days the remand of eight workers suspected of physically abusing patients in Neveh Yaakov mental hospital, Israel Radio reported on Thursday. One of the workers is also suspected of sexually abusing inmates.The court also sent to house arrest two senior employees and three nurses suspected of knowing about the abuse and not reporting it to the authorities, according to Israel Radio.Police detained over 70 of the medical practitioners from the private mental health institute on Wednesday morning for allegedly abusing inmates over several years.
