April - Searchers found a female body on Thursday in the Shenandoah National Park while looking for a Virginia firefighter missing for six days, officials said on Thursday.
The search for the firefighter, Nicole Mittendorff, 31, of Woodbridge in Fairfax County, has been suspended, the Shenandoah National Park said on its Facebook page. The remains were not identified.
Mittendorff was reported missing on Friday when she did not show up for work, triggering a search by Virginia State Police and the National Park Service. Her car was found in a parking lot near a trail in the park.The national park said the remains were found more than a mile from the parking lot and about 330 yards from the trail in rocky terrain.
