Four indicted for abduction for blackmail

The Tel Aviv District Attorney served indictments in the Tel Aviv District Court against four men on Thursday, charging them with abducting a man in order to blackmail him.

Yitzhak Hagani (19) Lior Biton (32), Oshri Vaknin, (31), and Yitzhak Almalah (23) were also charged with wounding under aggravating circumstances, unlawful possession of a knife, and subornation in connection with an investigation.

The four men allegedly abducted their victim, Yaakov Abramov, in Bnei Brak last month, in order to try to extort money he owed them.

The defendants told Abramov to meet them in Bnei Brak, where they insisted he pay them NIS 15,000, and then beat him when he said he could not, the indictment says.

Allegedly, the four then threatened Abramov with a knife, after which Biton and Vaknin beat him unconscious.

The indictment says the four defendants then bundled their victim into the back of a car and drove off. When Abramov regained consciousness, the defendants allegedly told him he must pay up or they would kill or imprison him.

Fortunately for Abramov, a member of the public reported suspicious activity to the police, who managed to locate the defendants' vehicle, the indictment says, apprehending them with the victim still bleeding and crying in the car.

The Penal Code cites a maximum penalty of ten years in prison for abduction for purposes of murder or blackmail.
