ICC prosecutor: Gbagbo, Ouattara both engaged in war crimes

THE HAGUE - The International Criminal Court prosecutor said there was a reasonable basis to believe that forces loyal to ousted Ivory Coast leader Laurent Gbagbo as well as rival Alassane Ouattara's forces committed war crimes.
After lodging a request with ICC judges on Thursday for approval to start an investigation into the Ivory Coast, prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo said at least 3,000 people were killed and 520 people were arbitrarily detained in post-election violence in the Ivory Coast since last November.
Moreno-Ocampo, who will send a team of investigators to assess the security situation in the Ivory Coast on Monday and to plan for his investigation, said further inquiries were needed to determine who was responsible for the crimes.
