Independence faction supports sanctions, says Wilf

The Independence faction supports so-called sanctions against individuals who refuse to serve in the army or civilian service, MK Einat Wilf said in an interview to Army Radio Tuesday.
"[Party leader and Defense Minister Ehud] Barak made clear from the beginning that the IDF should draft whoever it needs. Whoever serves will receive [benefits from the state] and whoever does not serve will not."
Wilf added that service is necessary for anyone who sees themselves as part of the nation, specifying that the ultra-Orthodox haredi community still struggles with their national solidarity.
"64 years after its founding, they still are ambivalent about their role in the nation. They have a biology of 'we can take but we cannot contribute,'" Wilf said.
