President Isaac Herzog spoke on Saturday with the de facto ruler of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Shiekh Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
The phone call between the UAE's crown prince, known by his initials as MBZ, and Herzog was the first between these heads of state.
In the call, Herzog sent his congratulations to the crown prince as the UAE celebrates 50 years since its establishment in 1971.
The two discussed the deepening of cooperation between the two countries to promote stability in the region.
It may be remembered that one of the first diplomatic acts in which Herzog engaged only a week after entering office was to join UAE ambassador Mohamed Al Khaja in opening the UAE embassy in Tel Aviv.
