Kara: Gaddafi's son was ready to aid Gilad Schalit effort

Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi’s son, Seif al-Islam, was recruited by the leader of an Austrian far-right political party to help secure the release of captured IDF soldier Gilad Schalit, Deputy Minister Ayoub Kara revealed Thursday evening. Speaking at an event for bereaved siblings held in advance of Memorial Day, Kara said that Austrian Freedom Party Chairman Heinz-Christian Strache had helped to convince the Libyan dictator’s son to serve as an intermediary with Hamas’s Damascus-based leadership.
According to Kara, who has a close relationship with the successor to former AFP chairman Jorg Haider, the younger Gaddafi had been set to meet with Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal in Syria. At that meeting, he had planned to raise the issue of Schalit with the Hamas hard-liner, but the tide of revolution in Libya resulted in the meeting’s indefinite delay.
Kara told participants in the Tel Aviv ceremony, held at the Kibbutz Seminar, that he was willing to work with anyone in Europe in order to strike against terror and religious extremism.
