One man was detained by police at the Western Wall Thursday morning after he attempted to pass a Torah Scroll from the men’s section to a women’s prayer group.Women in general, as well as the Women of the Wall prayer group, have been prevented from bringing a Torah scroll to female prayer services at the site for many years, although in recent months have managed to successfully smuggle one in on several occasions.“Discrimination against women starts at the Western Wall but invades the life of every woman in Israel,” said WOW chairwoman Anat Hoffman. “The time has come to stop capitulating to ultra-Orthodox demands and put a halt to their takeover of the Kotel and of the Jewish character of the public sphere in Israel.” Jeremy Sharon
