The Justice Ministry proposal expands the president’s existing authority, which applies only to criminal courts, to disciplinary action by professional organizations, governmental or not, such as the Bar Association or the Civil Service Administration.
Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked said that the bill was drafted with great faith in the institute of the presidency.
“If we trust [the president’s] judgement in the criminal area, there is no reason not to trust him in less serious matters like disciplinary courts,” she stated.
