Germany has asked for the assistance of the global chemical agency in investigating the alleged poisoning of Navalny

MOSCOW - Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny was poisoned by a bottle of water in his hotel room in the Siberian city of Tomsk, not at the airport as previously thought, his team said alongside a video posted on Navalny's Instagram account on Thursday.Germany has asked for the assistance of the global chemical agency in investigating the alleged poisoning of Navalny with a banned toxic chemical, the Hague-based organization said in a statement on Thursday."The Technical Secretariat of the OPCW has received from the Federal Republic of Germany a request for technical assistance," it said. Experts from the agency "collected biomedical samples from Mr Navalny for analysis by OPCW designated laboratories."Germany has said it has proof that Navalny was poisoned on Aug. 20 with the Soviet-era chemical agent Novichok.Navalny fell violently ill on a domestic flight in Russia last month and was subsequently airlifted to Berlin for treatment. Germany says he was poisoned by a Novichok nerve agent. Russia says it has seen no evidence he was poisoned.
