Netanyahu condemns killing of Russian ambassador in Turkey

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Tuesday morning strongly condemned the murder of Russia's ambassador to Turkey, who was killed by an off-duty police officer in Ankara the previous evening.
"Israel strongly condemns the brutal murder of Ambassador Andrey Karlov," said Netanyahu, who also sent condolences to Karlov's family and the people of Russia.
"The diplomat's murder underscores the need for the civilized world to unite against the forces of terror," he added.
Turkish security sources say the gunman, who shouted phrases including "Allahu akbar (God is great). Do not forget Aleppo! Do not forget Syria! Do not forget Aleppo! Do not forget Syria!" was off-duty special forces police officer Mevlüt Mert Altıntaş.
He was shot and killed at the scene by Turkish authorities who rushed to the scene.
