Netanya crime boss sentenced to 8 years in prison for money-laundering, tax crimes

The Tel Aviv District Court on Monday sentenced Netanya crime boss Rico Shirazi to eight years in prison for money-laundering, fraud, and tax crimes involving NIS 25 million.

Shirazi is expected to appeal to the Supreme Court.

The case was filed in 2011.

Separately, Shirazi was indicted in July as part of the wider Case 512 along with Asaf Yariv, for paying a hit man $50,000 in 2003 to murder Guy Yehezkel, an associate of Shirazi’s arch rival, Netanya mob boss Asi Abutbul.

The two also were in July for plotting to murder Abutbul in Prague where he ran a casino. On August 1, 2004, a man on a motorcycle threw a hand grenade at Abutbul as he entered an armored car outside the casino, but the target was not harmed.
