Netanyahu promises to reduce cost of food items, criticizes Lapid

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told a Tel Aviv business conference on Monday that if he is re-elected, his government will enact a reform which would strike down value-added tax on basic food items.
Netanyahu criticized his former finance minister, Yair Lapid, and his plan to offer VAT exemptions to first-time homebuyers. The premier dismissed Lapid and Justice Minister Tzipi Livni last week, triggering legislation to dissolve the parliament and kick off an election campaign.
