Nobel winner Shechtman: Israeli education inadequate

Dan Shechtman, the Israeli professor who won the 2011 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, criticized the Israeli education system on Sunday, reported Israel Radio.
While praising the level of university education, Shechtman said "education before university - in pre-schools, primary school and high school - is inadequate," partly because teacher pay is too low.
While bemoaning policy toward higher education over the past decade, Shechtman said he believes the tide has turned as more research funds have become available. "If the trend continues, we are headed in the right direction," he said.
