Rashida Tlaib, Progressive Congresswoman, defeats primary challenger

US Representative Rashida Tlaib, one of the most visible progressive Democrats in Congress, claimed victory Wednesday in the Democratic nominating primary against challenger Detroit City Council President Brenda Jones.
County elections results showed Tlaib with 63,650 votes to Jones' 32,582 with 89.9% of precincts reporting.
Tlaib, a member of the "Squad" of four progressives Congresswomen first elected in 2018, has so far declined to endorse the party's presumptive nominee Joe Biden for his November face-off with President Donald Trump.
