Report: Hamas chief backs Abbas's UN bid for statehood

Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal lent support to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas's bid to upgrade the status of Palestine at the United Nations, AFP reported.
According to AFP, Hamas released a statement backing the bid.
"Khaled Meshaal... held a telephone conversation with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in which he affirmed that Hamas welcomes the step of going to the United Nations for state observer status," the statement said.
Hamas official Ezat Risheq reiterated the movement's support on Monday, though they warned it should not "compromise" Palestinian "constants and rights," AFP quoted Risheq as saying.
According to AFP, the statement from Risheq welcomed the UN bid but warned it should not "sacrifice or compromise any inch of Palestinian land from the river to the sea."
