Report: Iran whips three in public for 'immoral acts'

TEHRAN - Three Iranians were subjected to a rare public flogging in the southern city of Shiraz for committing "immoral acts", the student news agency ISNA reported on Tuesday.
The three, whose gender was not reported, were each given 74 lashes, sentenced to 10 years in jail and banished from Shiraz for a further five.
Although young men and women are routinely flogged in detention centers on moral charges, beatings in public are relatively unusual in the Islamic state, where sharia law has been enforced since the country's 1979 Islamic Revolution.
The Islamic Republic usually whips people found drinking alcohol or involved in illicit sexual relationships.
