The man, from the haredi (ultra-Orthodox) community in Israel, was stabbed multiple times in the neck, chest, hands and face while waiting at a Greenwich Village metro stop, Channel 2 added.
The assailant fled the scene of the assault shortly thereafter. Police have opened an investigation and are currently combing the area for suspects.
Several pedestrians who saw the Israeli man bleeding from multiple wounds to his body provided basic medical assistance until New York paramedics arrived to evacuate him to a nearby hospital.
