Robert Singer named as WJC Secretary General

Robert Singer has been named to assume the position of secretary general of the World Jewish Congress, the most senior professional position in the organization, the WJC announced on Monday.
Singer, who is coming off of a 14 year stint as director general of the international World ORT organization, had previously worked in the Israeli Prime Minister's Bureau and served for over a decade as an educational officer in the IDF.
WJC President Ronald Lauder said that he was "delighted that Robert will be joining us at the WJC. He brings a wealth of experience with him from his work in Israel and internationally. He has had tremendous achievements at World ORT, where he also gained a great appreciation for many of our Jewish communities around the world. All of the WJC executives who have met Robert have been impressed with his professionalism, insight and vision and they look forward to working with him in strengthening the WJC’s position as the preeminent representative body of world Jewry.”
Singer is due to step into his new role in late April and his appointment is expected to be ratified in May by the 14th World Jewish Congress Plenary Assembly in Budapest.
The WJC is an international body representing Jewish communities around the world and has described itself as the "Diplomatic Arm of the Jewish People."
