Several suspects approached the Lebanese border on Friday evening and escaped after IDF troops fired warning shots to the air, Israeli media reported.
The suspects reportedly approached the border from the Lebanese side, near the area of Manara. IDF troops that were dispatched to the scene after receiving an alert from a nearby observation point, noticed the suspects and fired warning shots, causing the suspects to turn around.
The incident took place as tensions between Israel and Hezbollah are relatively high. The IDF expects that Hezbollah has not given up its intention of avenging the death of one of its operatives in Syria during a July airstrike attributed to Israel.
Several incidents followed, including a squad of Hezbollah operatives infiltrating Israeli territory in the area of Mount Dov, which has kept the IDF and Israel's defense establishment on edge ever since.
"An IDF observation post earlier today identified a number of suspects who crossed the Blue Line at the enclave on the Lebanese border. They did not cross the fence. IDF troops were dispatched and fired a warning shot as part of the procedure for arresting suspects. The suspects then turned around into Lebanon's territory. The IDF won't allow any attempt of violating the sovereignty of the State of Israel," an IDF statement read.
At around the same time as the incident on the Lebanese border took place, another unusual incident happened in the southern part of the country, when a suspect reportedly infiltrated Israel from the Gaza Strip.
The suspect was arrested by IDF troops and was interrogated.
