Thirteen years for man who abducted, stabbed girlfriend

The Haifa District Court sentenced a resident of the northern Arab village of Kabul to 13 years in prison on Wednesday, after he admitted charges of abducting and stabbing his girlfriend.Khadar Taha, aged 30, also admitted harm with aggravated intent, illegal possession of a knife, conspiracy for a felony and obstructing an investigation.Judge Hanny Horowitz said that there was a growing phenomenon of domestic violence against women in the north, and that the prison sentence should "send a loud, clear message that violence against women will result in a long prison sentence, even for those with no prior convictions."According to the indictment, Taha abducted his girlfriend and stabbed her 18 times after she told him she wanted to end the relationship.
