Two senior officials in Jerusalem religious council suspended in corruption investigation

Two employees of the Jerusalem religious council, responsible for municipal religious services, were suspended by the state civil service on Thursday due to an advanced police investigation into possible corruption within the body.
Director of Kashrut Services David Malka and head of the mikvah department Menachem Blumenthal were both suspended due to an investigation into their activities by the Jerusalem Police’s fraud department. There are advanced investigations into another four officials of the religious council, including council chairman Yehoshua Yishai.
The investigations are thought to relate to suspicions that senior officials in the council have received various benefits from service providers to the body as well as corruption within the kashrut department and other possible breach of trust and conflict of interest violations.
