UJA donates $100,000 to youth village destroyed in fire

UJA-Federation of New York today presented a check in the amount of $100,000 to the Yemin Orde Youth Village to support its recovery from the recent Carmel forest fire. Yemin Orde, a residential school south of Haifa on the western slope of Mount Carmel, is home to approximately 500 youth as well as staff, faculty, and their families. The forest fire, which destroyed 40 percent of Yemin Orde, is just the latest assault in the lives of its students, who have had to endure repeated challenges in their lifetimes.
“Yemin Orde has been the foundation for stability in the lives of these students,” explained Alisa Rubin Kurshan, senior vice president for strategic planning and organizational resources at UJA-Federation of New York. “We hope this contribution will not only facilitate the physical recovery of Yemin Orde, but also provide continuity in the students’ education, and, most important, restore their emotional recovery and well-being.”
