Zanzibar vows stern action over ferry disaster

STONE TOWN, Zanzibar - Zanzibar on Sunday vowed stern punishment for those responsible for overloading a ferry that capsized off the coast of east Africa, killing nearly 200 people.
Rescue boats, helicopters and divers searched for any remaining survivors but hopes were fading fast of finding anyone alive in the submerged wreck.
Police said divers sent from South Africa were due to arrive in Zanzibar on Sunday evening and check the ferry on Monday for bodies, but it was unlikely the ship would be salvaged.
The government removed the tents set up on public ground in Stone Town to cover the dead bodies as they were brought ashore, saying it believed most people had been accounted for.
