Safed hospital seeks donations to treat wounded Syrian civilians

Safed’s Ziv Medical Center is collecting donations for treating civilians wounded in Syria’s civil war. It has already provided medical care to more than 700, including women and children.The wounded, including orphaned young children, have reached the border after losing their parents in the bloodshed. Most of them suffer from serious wounds caused by gunfire or shrapnel, including internal bleeding. They usually require an extended period of treatment, sometimes including amputations, have no help from families and are without even basic necessities or medical equipment.With the recent violence against them in Aleppo and elsewhere, Ziv has expanded its efforts, including social help and physiotherapy for the wounded. It is raising money to buy crutches, wheelchairs, prostheses and other necessary equipment.When their treatment is completed, they will return to Syria, where there are no clinics, hospitals or medical centers for long-term rehabilitation, the hospital said on Sunday.Therefore they will be given bandages, drugs and other medical equipment to take with them in order to help them survive.Hospital director Dr. Salman Zarka thanks all those Israelis who have already contributed and volunteered, as well as the medical staff who are treating the patients.
