A 31-year-old woman serving in the Ukrainian police department was flown from the city of Lvov to Haifa for treatment at the Rambam Medical Center after being wounded by a mine. The country’s president was personally involved in arranging for the evacuation to Israel, making contact with Dr.Roman Barak, head of Haifa’s private Horev Medical Center, who 18 months ago treated a Ukrainian mayor who was wounded in an assassination attempt. As a result, Rambam’s intensive care director, Prof. Yaron Bar, flew to the Ukraine on a rented jet to stabilize the policewoman’s condition and bring her to Haifa. She has undergone several operations.
