Representatives from mobile phone manufacturer Nokia are scheduled to visit Israel next week to seek out partnerships with Israeli hi-tech companies. The group will arrive on May 16 as part of a 19 member business delegation from Finland, the first of its kind to visit Israel in approximately 10 years. They will come as guests of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor, the Manufacturers Association of Israel and the Israel Exports Institute. The IMA said Nokia is looking to create partnerships with Israeli companies in the data communications and wireless industries.
Less than eight months after its establishment, Tel Aviv-based security solutions start-up Yoggie Security Systems has raised $1.8 million in a first round of funding. Investors included a group of private investors from New York, headed by Early Bird Capital; a second group from Silicon Valley, led by Silicom Ventures; and an Israeli group of private investors. Yoggie was founded in October 2005 by Shlomo Touboul, former founder and CEO of Shany Computers Inc., Finjan Software, Runway Telecom and Runway Telecom Venture Partners.
Ra'anana-based billing services provider Amdocs has won a contract with Mexican directory publishing company Anuncios en Directorios S.A. de C.V. (ADSA) to implement its sales force automation solution. The system will be integrated into ADSA's existing Amdocs platform and comes as part of its strategy to implement a cross-organizational integrated customer management system through the company.
Wireless broadband solutions provider Alvarion has formed an alliance with information technology services giant IBM to deliver wireless systems to municipalities and their public safety agencies. The alliance will enable the delivery of wireless networks that support data, voice and video for both fixed and mobile applications.
Herzliya-based VocalTec Communications Ltd. has teamed up with Russian telecommunications equipment distributor Cross Communications to market its multimedia and VoIP (voice over Internet protocol) solutions to Russian communication service providers. The two will present VocalTec's expanded suite of solutions at the Sviaz EXPO COMM in Russia on May 10-14.
Also at Sviaz Expo, cellular networks solutions provider Cellvine Ltd. said it has successfully installed its coverage enhancement solution for Skylink, Russia's largest mobile network operator.
Meanwhile, the largest wireless broadband exhibition, The Wireless Event, will take place next week in London for the fourth year running. Yakum-based company Metalink Ltd. said it will demonstrate its WLANPlus chipset at the event, showing its ability to deliver high-definition television (HDTV) over wireless LAN with the same quality as through wire line infrastructures. The London event, on May 17-18, immediately follows The Broadband World Forum in Hong Kong, on May 16-17, where Metalink will also present its technology.
