Google Inc. has given all of its employees $1,000 cash “holiday bonuses” and 2011 salary increases of at least 10 percent, according to the blog “Silicon Alley Insider”.The pay hike will take effect on January 1, 2011 and will apply to all 23,000 Google employees worldwide.Sources inform Globes that Google Israel’s 200 employees will also get the raise, and that the bonus will be awarded either at Hanukka in December, or Pessah next April.“We want to make sure that you feel rewarded for your hard work, and we want to continue to attract the best people to Google,” Google CEO Eric Schmidt wrote in an internal e-mail message to employees.Schmidt added that, on the basis of employee feedback on Googlegeist and other surveys showing that salary is more important than any other component of pay, the company would move a portion of bonuses into base salary.Google’s action is apparently aimed at preventing employees moving to other companies. There have been numerous reports recently about attempts by various companies, including Facebook, to headhunt Google employees.“Even though we do not normally respond about internal company matters, we believe that fair compensation for employees is an important part of Google’s future,” said a Google spokesperson in response.
