IAF strikes Gaza terror target after rocket attack
IDF says attack is retaliation for high-trajectory fire from Gaza; strike follows rocket fired into Eshkol Regional Council.

The Israel Air Force struck a center of terrorist activity in the northern Gaza Strip overnight Sunday in retaliation to a rocket attack, the IDF stated.The IAF recorded an accurate strike and said that all aircraft returned safely to the base.The attack was a response to high-trajectory fire from Gaza, the IDF said.“We will continue to take action against attempts to harm Israeli citizens and IDF soldiers. Hamas is responsible for all terrorist activity emanating from the Gaza Strip,” the spokesman added.A couple of hours earlier, Palestinians fired a rocket from Gaza into southern Israel. The rocket exploded in an open field in the Eshkol Regional Council area. No injuries or damage were reported.Over the weekend, Home Front Defense Minister Avi Dichter said Israel would have to alter its deterrence strategy, while visiting a home in Sderot damaged by a rocket strike. Describing the current situation as intolerable, Dichter said Israel would have to initiate a “complete deterrence strategy to stop the terrorism.”The air force struck two terrorist targets in Gaza overnight Friday in response to the rocket attack.Palestinian sources said the air strikes targeted Hamas training facilities, adding that two men were moderately wounded.Yaakov Lappin contributed to this report.
