Donation brings casino tycoon and Israeli newspaper owner's contributions to Republican candidate to $10m. in two months.

Dr. Miriam Adelson, the wife of hotel and casino tycoon Sheldon Adelson, will give $5 million to Newt Gingrich’s campaign, US media reported Tuesday.The gift brings the total amount of donations from the wealthy Jewish-American couple to the Republican party nominee in recent weeks to $10m.RELATED:Adelson gives $5m. to Super PAC backing Gingrich Adelson donates $25m. to Yad Vashem The Adelsons are friends of the former speaker of the house and have helped bankroll his political campaigns in the past.Last month, Adelson addressed a group of Jewish young adults visiting Israel on Taglit- Birthright, and expressed support for Gingrich for arguing that Palestinians were not a people during in an interview on Jewish TV.“Read the history of those who call themselves Palestinians, and you will hear why Gingrich said recently that the Palestinians are an invented people,” Adelson said. “There are a number of Palestinians who will recognize the truth of this statement.”Adelson, who also owns Israel Hayom, is deeply involved in Israeli politics and is known for his staunch support of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.The Boston-born billionaire also donates millions each year to Jewish and Israeli causes. Last December he gave $5m. to Birthright. That same month he gave $25m. to Yad Vashem.
