'Foreign Ministry urges world to transfer funds to PA'

Report from Foreign Ministry comes despite opposition to Palestinian statehood without brokered peace talks with Israel, Army Radio reports.

Foreign Ministry representatives Thursday night encouraged the international community to continue to support the Palestinian Authority financially, Army Radio reported.
As Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas intends to bring the question of Palestinian statehood before either the United Nations General Assembly or Security Council on September 20th, Israeli diplomats in New York for the upcoming UN sessions, say it is critical for the international community to make sure the Palestinian Authority does not collapse financially, according to the report.

In particular, Israel believes that development projects, private businesses and Palestinian security forces should receive monetary support in order to provide economic and security stability, the report said.
The Palestinian Authority's Permanent Observer to the UN, Riyad Mansour, told a specially-gathered press conference at the UN Thursday that the Palestinians have not yet decided whether or not the Palestinians will pursue unilateral recognition of statehood via the Security Council or the General Assembly next week.
The final decision as to which path to pursue, Mansour said, will be taken “within the next few days.”
“All these options are still available to us,” Mansour said. “We are fine tuning our options and will make the final decision soon.”
Mansour said the Palestinians decision will be announced by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas when the decision is made.
Mansour said that UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon “reiterated unconditional support for the just cause of the Palestinian people” in a letter to Mansour, in which Ban stated, Mansour said, that the decision of admitting states to the UN is a decision to be made by member states and that “he will respect and honor the position of member states.”
