Iran denounces Turkish request for NATO Patriot missiles

Iranian parliamentary speaker Ali Larijani was set to meet Saturday with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan amidst rising tensions over Ankara's request for the deployment of NATO patriot missiles along the border with Syria, Turkish daily Hurriyet reported.
Prior to arriving in Turkey, Larijani denounced the prospective move, saying "Syria's internal crisis can not be solved by deploying these kind of missiles."
On Friday, Syria also denounced the "provocative" move, with a ministry source telling Syrian state television that Damascus would hold Erdogan directly responsible for increasing tensions along the frontier.
Turkish Defense Minister Ismet Yilmaz revealed Saturday that the country expects NATO to make a decision about deploying the surface-to-air missiles within the next week.
