Kyrgyz authorities have arrested an alleged member of a regional militant Islamic group linked to al-Qaida, the Interior Ministry said Thursday.
Abdulkhai Yuldashev, 44, was arrested Wednesday in the southern town of Uzgen, said Interior Ministry spokesman Bakyt Seitov.
Yuldashev led a group that received funding from the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan and was involved in attacks on Kyrgyz and Tajik border posts in May 2006, when gunmen broke through into Kyrgyz territory, killing nine people, Seitov said.
