New Zealand is to give Pakistan 500,000 New Zealand dollars (US$385,000; €281,000) in humanitarian aid in the wake of serious flooding that has affected millions of people, Foreign Minister Winston Peters said Tuesday.
The combined effects of the monsoon season beginning on June 23 and Cyclone Yemyin on June 26 have claimed hundreds of lives across Pakistan.
Pakistan earlier called on the international community to rush aid to the victims while its military continued to airlift relief supplies to isolated communities.
"Up to 2 million people have been affected, with at least 100,000 homeless. Most of those worst hit by the flood are poor and disadvantaged, including many Afghani refugees," Peters said in a statement.
