Pakistan army spokesman: India violating 2003 Kashmir cease-fire

Pakistan's army spokesman has accused India of violating a 2003 cease-fire in the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir.
Maj. Gen. Athar Abbas says the Indian army fired mortars and small arms in the Battal sector of Kashmir without any provocation Thursday.
He says Pakistan's forces returned fire.
Abbas says the local Pakistani commander lodged a protest with his Indian counterpart following what he called the "breach of cease-fire," while the army's director general of military operations requested a meeting with his Indian counterpart.
Kashmir is divided between Pakistan and India. More than a dozen militant groups have been fighting in the Indian side since 1989, seeking independence for Muslim-majority Kashmir or its merger with Pakistan.
