Police: Officer killed, 3 injured in ambush in Russia's Chechnya region

Police in Chechnya said an officer has been killed and three others wounded in an ambush in the Russian region.
The regional Interior Ministry said three gunmen opened fire on police officers who were on their way to the scene of a fire set at another officer's home in a village in southern Chechnya. Police believe the fire was set to lure the officers into a trap.
The attackers escaped after fatally shooting one officer and wounding three others, who were hospitalized.
Chechnya has been torn apart by two wars since 1994 pitting separatist rebels against Russian forces.
Major fighting died down years ago and the region is controlled by a Kremlin-backed government, but militant attacks and other violence persist.
