Sri Lanka: Battles kill 41 Tamil rebels, 2 soldiers in war-torn country
By JERUSALEM POST STAFF
The Sri Lankan military says soldiers have killed 41 ethnic Tamil rebels in separate battles in the embattled northern region, and that the fighting also killed two soldiers.
Military spokesman Brig. Udaya Nanayakkara says the new fighting took place in the Vavuniya, Mannar and Welioya areas in northern Sri Lanka on Thursday.
It is not possible to get independent accounts of the clashes because journalists are barred from the war zone.
