Tens of thousands of nationalists marched through Warsaw on Saturday, November 11, waving flags and banners as they marked Poland's Independence Day.The rally was organized by far-right nationalist groups who chanted phrases such as, "Pure Poland, White Poland!" and "Refugees get out!" They held signs expressing antisemitic, anti-immigrant and white pride sentiment.Antisemitic chants including "Jews out of Poland," were shocking in a nation that lost around 90 percent of its Jewish population in the Holocaust.Starting near Dmowski Roundabout, the group filed across Poniatowski Bridge as darkness fell, red flares lighting their procession. The November 11 celebration marks the day in 1918 when Poland regained its independence after having been carved up for 123 years by Russia, Prussia and Austria.Across the city a smaller counter protest was held by anti-facist groups who marched with banners reading "together against racism" and "rainbow is the new black."
