At a time when it seems like the Israeli music world is made of matchstick artists who light up with a bright flame but quickly fade and burn out, there are a few who keep lighting our lives with their bright talent. One of them is the always entertaining Ivri Lider, who in a Friday matinee debuted his latest album in front of thousands of devoted fans at the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center, a hall reserved only for Israel’s finest cultural artists.Alongside his timeless hits, Lider preformed songs from his new album, Ha’ahava Hazot Shelanu, songs that seem to reflect on his latest turnovers, struggles and relationships. It was clear that each song had a personal story behind it and you could feel that this time Lider focused on what he wanted to say instead of what the world wanted to hear. In a surprising confession, the veteran singer/songwriter spoke of his late father and his artwork, which never saw daylight in his lifetime. (On stage, it was proudly introduced as a 3D video art display).Throughout the show the bond between Lider and his fans was obvious. He didn’t think twice about leaving the stage and singing alongside the excited selfie-seeking crowd. In return, he was presented with several gifts including a homemade 41st birthday cake.Lider welcomed on stage Dudu Tassa for a musical duo treat. Both played two of Tassa’s biggest hits and shared an electrifying moment. As expected, the show was a well-mixed cocktail of music, passion and culture. It’s clear why Lider has been at the top of Israeli pop music pantheon for the past two decades and will remain there for years to come.
