Israelis search for Shlomit Malka, Americans google Gal Gadot
Search trends for 2017 reveal interesting patterns in Israel and the world.

What are people around the world looking up on the Internet? Let me google that for you.Google published its search trends both globally and broken down by country on Wednesday, and the rankings may surprise you.Rosh Ha’ayin native Gal Gadot was the No. 6 most searched person in the world of the year, and the No. 3 most searched actor. In the US, she was the No. 10 most searched person and the No. 3 most searched actor.And while Google didn’t publish a list of top people searched for in Israel, when it came to news searches, Gadot didn’t crack the top 10. The most searched-for news story in Israel in 2017 was instead Amir Fryszer Guttman.Guttman, a singer formerly in the band Hi-Five, tragically drowned in July at age 41 while saving the life of his young niece who had been pulled out to sea. The second and third top news searches in Israel this year were also about celebrity accidents, but with happier endings: model Shlomit Malka, who was hospitalized in August after a scooter accident, and actress Lucy Dubinchik, who faces a long recovery after surviving a fall from the fourth floor of a building in August.

Within Israel, it was the No. 2 most searched-for movie after The Fast and the Furious 8.Justice League, which also starred Gadot, came in at No. 8, while the controversial Shmuel Maoz film Foxtrot came in at tenth place.
In the US, Wonder Woman was the third most searched-for film after It and Beauty and the Beast, with Justice League at No. 5. Globally, Wonder Woman came in second place for film searches after It. Justice League came in fifth.When it comes to top searched-for TV shows in Israel, the No. 1 slot went to The Voice, followed by Survivor, Power Couple and then Married at First Sight. Internationally, people were searching for Stranger Things and 13 Reasons Why, while in the US it was 13 Reasons Why followed by Game of Thrones.Of the top 10 searches for people globally, three were for men accused of sexual harassment or assault: Matt Lauer (No. 1), Harvey Weinstein (No. 4) and Kevin Spacey (No. 5). Meghan Markle, the actress who became engaged to Prince Harry last month, was the No. 2 most searched person both globally and in the US.Both worldwide and in the United States, the most searched-for term overall was Hurricane Irma, the September storm that ravaged Cuba, Puerto Rico and Florida.But what do Israelis have in common with both Americans and the globe? The No. 1 “how to” search for 2017 by all three metrics was “how to make slime.”
