Puerto Rican rapper Juan Luis Morera Luna, better known as Wisin, will be performing in Israel for the first time on December 12 at Tel Aviv’s Menora Mivtachim Arena.
The 34-year-old rapper first started his career as part of the Reggaeton duo Wisin & Yandel. The duo released their debut album, Los Reyes Del Nuevo Milenio, in 2000, which was heralded alongside contemporary releases by up-and-coming artists such as Daddy Yankee, Queen Ivy and Don Chezina as spearheading the exploding reggaeton scene.
In 2008, Wisin & Yandel received two Latin Grammy awards for their album Los Extraterrestres. The same album would later earn the duo a Grammy award for “Best Urban Latin Album.” Wisin & Yandel were also voted “Favorite Latin Artist” at the American Music Awards for two straight years.
In 2013, the duo went into hiatus, but although rumors saying their split was because of differences between them, Yandel denied this and confirmed they had not disbanded.
As a result, Wisin recorded a solo album, El Regreso del Sobreviviente, which was released in 2014. Featuring the likes of Chris Brown, Pitbull and Sean Paul, the record peaked at No.50 on the Billboard 200 and featured the popular single “Andrenalina” featuring Jennifer Lopez and Ricky Martin.
In 2015, the single “Nota de Amor” (featuring Daddy Yankee and Carlos Vives) appeared as a precursor to the full-length Los Vaqueros: La Trilogía.
Wisin returned in 2017 with the single “Escápate Conmigo,” featuring Ozuna. The track is currently No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart.
In a recent interview with People magazine, Wisin said his friendship with Yandel is still strong and they have recorded new music together.
“It’s a very healthy relationship, a professional relationship but also a very personal one, with respect and admiration,” said Wisin.
