Police detained and questioned a former National Security Council official on Thursday. The official, whose name is under gag order, is suspected of bribery, fraud, money laundering and breach of trust.Police believe the suspect used his position to conspire with a German national to promote business interests. Police raided the suspect’s home, and that of another suspect, on Tuesday. The official was a senior IDF officer before being appointed to the NSC and was in line to head the organization until Ometz, an NGO promoting good government, wrote the attorney-general claiming a conflict of interest and the appointment was delayed.“We hope that such revelations will deter senior officials in the public sector and make it clear to them that there is someone looking at and examining their work,” Ometz chairman Udi Segal told Walla News.“They will understand that they are public servants, and refrain from accepting favors and betraying their positions for financial gain.”
