Leeds University Union consented to a request by the Jewish Society of the university to celebrate Israel's Independence Day, but saw fit to inform students of the decision and offer them help and support should the event cause them great concern or unhappiness, the Daily Wire reported on Thursday.
Users were quick to point out that other events supported by the Union do not merit such an announcement.
"I head there's a fitness event going on," one wrote, "I feel uncomfortable about this because I'm… unhealthy."
Others expressed "hurt" over the statement, "I feel for the Jewish students who are there now who may feel personally victimized and singled out for believing in and celebrating a country which we call home," a former student wrote before adding "you should be ashamed of yourselves."
