Israeli police prevented and made sure that a soccer match between the Palestinian football team Burji Laq Laq (the stork tower) and a visiting team of British-Muslims will not be held in Jerusalem. The coach of the Palestinian team is currently in prison due to his membership in Hamas, a terrorist group. The event was organized by the Palestinian Authority and was meant to include speeches by Adnan El-Hussaini, who serves as the Palestinian representative in Jerusalem.Under Israeli law the Palestinian authority is barred from holding any activities in Jerusalem.Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan stated that the Palestinian Authority is always trying to undermine Israeli sovereignty in Jerusalem and that he will act "firmly" to deprive them of any such footholds. The Burji Laq Laq team is named after the tower built on the walls of Jerusalem by Suleiman the Magnificent, the tower also lent its name to a section of the Muslim neighborhood around it, in which mostly Domari Gypsies live.
