Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan has submitted a request to posthumously honor terror victim Ari Fuld, who chased his attacker and shot him after being stabbed in the back in Gush Etzion last month.Yediot Aharonot reported Thursday that Erdan asked Police Commissioner Insp.-Gen. Roni Alsheich to promptly convene the police award committee to discuss honoring Fuld, with the hope that he can bestow the honor upon him at the next awards ceremony set for later this month.“Ari Fuld demonstrated supreme courage, while putting his own life on the line when in his final moments he chased the terrorist who had stabbed him, and neutralized him – thus saving the lives of other civilians,” Erdan wrote in his petition to Alsheich, asking him to consider granting Fuld the medal of valor, according to Yediot. The medal of valor is a rare honor given in cases of exceptional heroism, as noted in a statement put out by the Israel Police in connection with the report. The police also noted that in the history of the Israel Police only two such medals have been awarded within the police force. The statement said the sub-committee convened to discuss the matter, taking into account the criteria for granting such awards and will forward its recommendation to the head of the Human Resources Division, Asst.-Ch. Gila Gaziel, who heads the main honors committee. After the committee reviews the material and the recommendation of the subcommittee, it will forward its opinion to the commissioner for his decision on whether to award a medal.
