Police arrest east Jerusalem man for possession of illegal weapons

The suspect has previously served time in Israeli prison for crimes related to illegal weapons.

The Israel Police arrested a 24-year old man Wednesday night for possession of an illegal weapon and ammunition in east Jerusalem’s Beit Hanina neighborhood.
The Israel Police Spokesperson's Unit stated that this was a joint operation by Border Police and the Police Canine Unit, based on intelligence provided by detectives, to "increase security and prevent the possession of weapons by terrorist operatives."
The police found a FN pistol, ammunition and grenades in the east Jerusalem home.
The suspect has previously served time in Israeli prison for crimes related to the possession of illegal weapons and will appear before the courts on Thursday.
The police stated that they will continue their focused activity in locating and seizing illegal weapons in an effort prevent violent crime in east Jerusalem, where weapons are often used in internal conflicts among residents, as well as terror activities.
