Watch: Police clash with Palestinian protesters at Damascus Gate

Police clashed with Palestinian protesters at Damascus Gate and the streets surrounding it Friday, chanting "with blood and spirit, we will liberate al-Aksa" and "Jerusalem is an Arab city."

Israel Police told The Jerusalem Post that so far two protesters were arrested.

Police heightened security measures throughout the Old City and its gates, after having clashed with protesters in east Jerusalem throughout the week as the city's Arab residents have been "raging" against US President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Police have arrested about 80 residents of east Jerusalem as of Thursday.

This comes after Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas delivered an inciteful speech at an emergency session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Istanbul Wednesday, organized by Turkish President Rajab Tayyip Erdogan.

"Police and border police officers carrying out security measure in and around the old city throughout the day," Police Spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said. "The Temple Mount is open for regular Friday prayers. There are no age restrictions today."

Police will respond to any illegal protests Friday, he added.
