Police finalize security measures for Jerusalem Day celebrations

Following the success of Operation Blue Shield to protect US President Donald Trump during his historic visit, police finalized security measures on Tuesday for the thousands of Israelis expected to convene in the Old City to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Six Day War.“Operation Blue Shield, carried out by the Israel Police in coordination with the Secret Service, has successfully concluded according to plans implemented throughout the visit,” police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said.“In terms of Jerusalem Day, security assessments have been made and final preparations completed for celebrations taking place in the capital, which will include tens of thousands of Israelis taking part in a march that will begin in the center of town and lead into the Old City,” he added.Several thousand police officers from numerous units will safeguard Jaffa Gate and Damascus Gate as the procession heads to the Western Wall, Rosenfeld said.“Police units will be in and around the area to secure the event and ensure the safety of all participants,” he said. “Border Police, Undercover and Special Patrol units will secure the different areas where celebrations will take place throughout the day, and into the evening, until their conclusion.”Rosenfeld added that police have not received any intelligence regarding threats directed at the celebrations marking the anniversary of the reunification of the capital.
